CO-2 PRESSURE TREATMENT

Due to a rapidly increasing demand from the market for the combined provision of CO2 pressure treatments and the consecutive cleaning of these treated parcels at one location, P. de Vrij Moerkapelle BV will start with this soon.

In 2018 a new facility will be built especially for this purpose, in collaboration with Mostert & van de Weg B.V. This new operation is called Mostert de Vrij BV. Not only does this mean a significant expansion of the capacity for pressure treatment and cleaning, but it also provides great logistical advantages for our customers. Goods can be cleaned immediately after the pressure treatment and transported from there to the final destination.

Until then, we can arrange for your product to be treated (for now by external parties), including transport to there and possibly back to us. For more information contact us.

CO2 PRESSURE TREATMENT

Due to the constant increase of imported foodstuffs and the raw materials for these products, but also the ever stricter legislation on them plus the growth of the organic segment within them, the chance of insects in your product increases. Products such as rice, but also legumes and seeds for the bakery industry are susceptible to the presence of, among other things, stock insects such as rice beetles or moths. These are innocent insects in themselves, but it is evident that they are absolutely undesirable in foodstuffs.

The CO2 pressure treatment that we are going to apply is a special technique that completely kills insects in all stages of life within a few hours. It is a purely technical method where no use is made of chemicals or toxins. Only the application of CO2 and pressure, in the cabins that are especially designed for this purpose, are sufficient.

Where this method was once mainly used for the organically certified products (due to the unnecessary use of chemicals and such), we now see a clear increase in the use for all foodstuffs and raw materials. Manufacturers and importers see the advantages of this method when it comes to food safety, speed and environmental awareness.

CLEANING AFTER TREATMENT

CO2 pressure treatment kills off insects at all stages but does not remove them. That is why a so-called cleaning step follows after the treatment. For this purpose we will place a completely new machine line that can remove the remains of the killed insects. In addition, the purity of the products can be increased. If, for example, a batch of lentils or pumpkin seeds is also contaminated with twigs, pebbles, glass or soil, these can also be cleaned out.
